wooden box makeover

[info]cydniey
michaels had small wooden boxes in the clearance isle this week, so i picked a few up.

i had ordered a grab bag of scrapbooking stickers with my stickerplanet.com $10 coupon for having their link on my page (you can put it on your lj page and get one for yourself!).

and i always have some sort of left over paint around and marble gems.

combine, stir and viola!

new stuff for me
pride tags
[info]cydniey
i decorated the tin i got for my paper making tools:

and i made personalized links from some old links the jewels had fallen off of. the foggy part is laquer that isn't yet dry.

i was watching an auction for one like the "freak" one, $5 . . . fuck that, these were free. there is also one that says "speak". one of my italian charm bracelets says "mad diy vox" in pink letters, i want to put these between those words.

oh, and i did some hand felting last night and made a wristband from a piece of it. it is up at the ebay store.

you may be able to tell i'm really getting into this medium. two holes drilled in the bottom keep the air flowing, the leaves do not cover the holes, so it is as functional as it is beautiful

may i present: earth and sky - a miracle of silk leaves, glass gems, silver glitter and hemp cord . . . and of course a gorgeous blue bottle.

just as boring as my rambling, but in color!

leeloo dallas multicat enjoys her naps more than anyone i know

[info]eris, [info]gwyll and the dane have seen my studio nee dining room and may notice a change. stacked boxes and dust bunnie covered crates stuffed full of random things have given way to a workable filing system and storage unit. certainly not finished, but far more inhabitable. tomorrow i'll finish it. by tomorrow night i sould be able to sit down at the table and work.

which is good because i found all of my suncatcher templates, and S delivered a stack of promotional CDs he'd trash picked. i can actually build up a stock of them. and i've finally found every last stash of the odd plastic beads i rarely used before these things.

and the components of the beaded curtain project are all together in a milk crate. so when i choose to sit down and finish it, it is all ready. it may actually get finished now. because of the flatware, lids, keys, glass marble beads and other found small metal items, it will be an art piece rather than a functional curtain. it will be a bit sharp and unpredictable. but it will rock.

i feel so much peace. it gets easier with each large bag i fill of stuff i'll never see again.

i've been taking copious notes during this, noting where things go and what i can use them for that had been forgotten.

funny, those shelves both register as level. it must be the florals at one end that makes them look strange

some features i'm proud of:

- ribbon spools on silk leaf stem hanging from floral basket (florals purchased in a huge craft lot, cost: about 1 cent each stem)

- floral wall basket is a half round outdoor planting basket of powder coated wire (trash find)

- small jars attatched to bottom of flat shelf for easy access to tiny things (jars from a food gift basket from the holidays)

-jars and cans of stuff that i should use and forget about (recycled jars and coffee cans)

- hooks under smaller shelf hold jewelry and suncatcher stock (both shelves cost 50 cents at a long ago michaels clearance sale)

and my triumph:

broken wine rack paper holder

wine rack was a trash pick, stood upright and filled with rolled paper and frame pieces and eucalyptus too fragile to go into the floral basket

next is the wall of doom. i'll take a 'before' picture but i'm not posting it until i have an 'after' image.

this time it is the jewel cases. i have a pile of cases that have no lids.

bit of colored paper and cropped photos inside, with perfect holes already to tie silk cord in and hand the mess

and so the seroquel hits me. it will be another hour until i can cut more paper, i don't trust myself with the 2' by 2' dullish paper cutter when i'm zonky.

henry does not share my fear. yes, he is a big big cat.

the sky is grey. the big national map on the weather channel has most of the united states covered in rain. i should find that image. i'm hoping for a little rain. and a lot of thunder.

then . . .

i wander into the kitchen, we may never know what for, and i made a big pot of chili.

doc is thawing a roast, so i snatched a quarter of it and cut it up into little bite sized cubes (it was really easy since the meat was still half frozen). then i diced an onion and minced some garlic. i browned the meat, added the onions and then the garlic.

once that was all brown and limp (don't forget to salt and peper the meat and onions as they cook) i added a couple cups of broth, a big can of tomato sauce, a can of black eyed peas (the LAST can of mormon welfare food left over from a care package from my family when we moved in), three cups of black beans i cooked the other night, and a bag of anemic looking frozen corn. the corn plumped right up once it hit the hot liquid.

then the spices, and heavy on the cumin! chili powder, curry powder, granulated garlic, s&p and anything you like in your chili. now it is simmering, cooking down.

everything was found languishing except for the meat. and i feel all accomplished for making good use of the stuff.

and now the house smells of cumin and we are out of chili powder. then i found some sour cream to garnish. doc will have a yummy good meal when he gets home tonight.

paper casting
i don't have proper paper molds, so i've been using what i find to experiment with this, and i love the results. i've also been making paper bowls and this is my favorite.

i made purple casts and textured paper.
then i made some more pale green with dill and glitter
someone wanted to trade some with me
and i had a bunch of legal pad paper written on it with blue marker
and we have green!
and i made another bowl, as you can see
this is my favorite one yet, i did a thing,
and if it works out, it is gonna look so cool!

does anyone know where my vellum or tracing paper are?
they aren't where i thought they were
it's for the coreboard backing i made the other day
damn damn damn

tear bear redux
pride tags
[info]cydniey
i can't very well have something unspeakably cute sitting around, unless it is a tigger. so i touched up my unspeakably cute, but rather perverted tear bear.

a few eyelets, a leather strap left over from a leather bag i cannibalized recently, and some marking pen.

and that is the last of that subject, i've got my pattern worked out and i've made one to represent my paper/pattern packs and i hope to drop this altogether once i make kitty, puppy and bunny ears. but i will not be making those critters, that is for someone else.

dried and ready to use paper (i plan to use them as backing to some photos of my old restaurant i've been wanting to frame) white, yellow and green paper and silver glitter and dried dill, i'm going to iron these to see if i can get them to not be quite as lumpy. i dry all paper between two cookie sheets (layered with soft fabric) with 30 pounds of hand weights on it, so the dried sheets lay flat, i'm just wondering if i can even out the lumpies.

today's sheets drying. purple file folders and white office paper with dark dryer lint

a bowl made from today's batch, really just an experiment i don't expect to work the first time, but if it does, i'll be really happy.
